Lifspel is an AI-powered Storyplay Engine. Artificial intelligence isn't a hidden feature—it's the creative partner that brings your stories to life. This page explains how AI works in Lifspel and what that means for you.
1. How AI Powers Your Stories
1.1 Narrative Generation
When you play a story in Lifspel, AI generates:
- Story prose — The narrative text that describes scenes, actions, and atmosphere
- Character dialogue — What NPCs say in response to your character
- Scene development — How situations evolve based on your choices
- Emotional dynamics — Character reactions and relationship changes
1.2 The Collaboration
You provide direction through your inputs—what your character does, says, or feels. The AI interprets your intent and renders it as literary prose, weaving your choices into a coherent narrative. You shape the story; the AI gives it voice.
1.3 Scenario Assistance
When you create scenarios, AI can help by suggesting character details, generating setting descriptions, and helping develop story premises. You remain in creative control.
2. AI Providers
2.1 Current Providers
Lifspel currently uses:
- OpenAI (GPT models) — Available as your Story AI Engine
- Anthropic (Claude models) — Available as your Story AI Engine
You can choose your preferred AI engine in Settings.
2.2 Data Handling
When generating story content:
- Your story context and inputs are sent to the selected AI provider
- AI providers process this data to generate responses
- Providers have their own data retention and privacy policies
- We use API configurations that minimize data retention where available
3. What AI Cannot Do
Our AI systems:
- Don't learn from your stories — Your sessions don't train the AI models
- Don't remember across sessions — Each story session is independent
- Don't access external information — AI generates from its training, not live internet
- Don't make decisions about your account — Only humans handle account matters
4. Content Considerations
4.1 AI Limitations
AI-generated content may occasionally:
- Produce inconsistencies in story details
- Generate unexpected narrative directions
- Reflect biases present in training data
- Misinterpret ambiguous inputs
We continuously work to improve quality and address these limitations.
4.2 Content Filtering
AI providers apply content policies that may prevent generation of certain content types. Lifspel adds additional guidance to maintain appropriate storytelling boundaries while preserving creative freedom.
5. Your Control
You can:
- Choose your AI engine — Switch between providers in Settings
- Guide the narrative — Your inputs shape what the AI generates
- Start fresh — Begin new stories without AI memory of past sessions
- Delete your data — Remove your story history entirely
6. Transparency
We believe in being clear about AI's role:
- Story content is AI-generated unless explicitly noted otherwise
- System Scenarios are human-designed, AI-assisted in description generation
- We don't pretend AI-generated content is human-written
7. Future Development
As AI technology evolves, we may:
- Add new AI providers or models
- Improve generation quality and consistency
- Add new AI-powered features
